MESSAGE TO OWNERS OF DOGS RECEIVING BORDETELLA (KENNEL COUGH) VACCINE

Studies have shown that the Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccine actually only provides an average of 6 months of protection for your dog. If your dog is at high risk for contracting kennel Cough, (i.e. kenneled frequently, taken to a groomer or obedience classes, or interacts with multiple dogs), we recommend boostering the vaccine every 6 months.

Currently, all kennel facilities still require only yearly boosters, therefore you are not required to booster the vaccine twice a year but doing so will give your dog better protection. Please let our staff know if you would like us to send a reminder to you in 6 months. If the visit does not coincide with your dogs annual checkup, there will not be an exam fee if there are no problems.

The Correct Way To Compare A Pets Age to Humans.

To compare the relative age of a pet to a human is both fun and important. We all have heard that a year in a pets life is equal to 7 years in human terms. Is this correct? LetÆs take some examples: A 2- year old dog is fully developed and mature. Is a 14- year old human? No, so in this case, a 2 ûyear old pet is not the same as a 14-year old child. A 20 û year old pet is common, we have several in our animal hospital. Now, 20 times 7 is 140-years old. How many 140- year old humans does Willard Scott know? Not many, if any. In reality, a pets year is not the same as 7 years to a human.
